Description

PAW Presents a Satirical Reading:

Written in 1916 by the poet Edgar Lee Masters, Spoon River Anthology was a book-length series of poetic monologues that set the record straight about life in small town America being idyllic, virtuous and uncorrupted.  It became one of the hits of the 20th century. Set in a cemetery, the characters speak from the grave about their and others' lives on earth. It was banned in Masters' hometown in Illinois because it was too clearly about particular people there.

Noting that little has changed in the ensuing 109 years, Mikhail Horowitz and Performing Arts of Woodstock present another narrative, Spoon River Apology, about an artsy-craftsy town in the Catskills.

Shelley Wyant, fresh from directing PAW's The Fiick, will lead a group of eight talented actors as they bring to life this parodic homage to the Edgar Lee Masters classic.

Readers:  Lori Wilner, Nicole Quinn, Taylor Steward,  Adele Calcavecchio, David Smilow, Andrew Joffe, Hank Neimark, Gilles Malkine.

All seats $15
