Description

TroupEnigma, in collaboration with Performing Arts of Woodstock is proud to present Henrik Ibsen's "An Enemy of the People", adapted by Arthur Miller and directed by Michael Juzwak.

Set in a small Norwegian town, Dr. Stockmann attempts to expose a water pollution scandal in his hometown which is trying to establish itself as a spa. When his brother, the mayor, conspires with local politicians and the newspaper to suppress the story out of self-preservation, Stockmann appeals to the public at a meeting—only to be shouted down and reviled as 'an enemy of the people.’

Henrik Ibsen's masterpiece as adapted by Arthur Miller explores the conflict between personal integrity and societal norms.  Set against the backdrop of a community grappling with economic and environmental concerns, the play highlights the often harsh consequences faced by those who challenge established systems. Ibsen’s depiction of this struggle emphasizes the tension between truth and expediency.
